About Us
History
Orville Luster, father to Robert Luster, and grandfather to Emily, Sarah, and John Luster, arrived in San Francisco after WWII. He honorably served in the U.S. Army as a first sergeant and was a proud member of the African American unit, the Red Ball Express, in the European Theater. After WWII, Orville used the G.I. Bill and graduated from San Francisco State University. Upon graduation, he was hired by the San Francisco based non-profit, Youth for Service, to serve as the Executive Director. Orville committed himself to helping troubled youth with few options other than gang membership. In concert with labor unions and public officials, he created workforce development programs that took gang members off the street and placed them into union-paying jobs, back to school to earn a college degree, or both.
During his time at Youth for Service, Orville and his wife, Joy, raised a family in San Francisco and South San Francisco. His son, Robert Luster, was born in 1958. Robert followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the military ranks. He entered the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and graduated in 1981 with a degree in General Engineering. Robert went on to enjoy an eleven-year service in the U.S. Army and obtained the rank of Captain. He also earned his MBA from Long Island University, New York. After serving, Robert moved back to San Francisco. Together, Orville and Robert founded and built Luster into a trusted professional services firm and began a legacy. Emily, Sarah, and John now join their father in continuing to build the legacy.
